Our Time
Text, gold leaf, metal, mixed media
Hanging Sculpture installation, 7 x 7 x 8 metres
Our Time is a hanging ‘poem artwork’ made of fragments of phrases in both Myanmar language, and English/Singlish language phrases. The words are about the experience of time in Yangon and Singapore cities. There phrases have been collected from people in Singapore over the past 7 years, and are now ‘collaged’ into a poem.
Here are the two poems which have been turned into a sculpture featuring golden text. The first is by Nicola Anthony, and the second is by Myanmar poet and writer San Lin Tun:
Our Time
Rushing down the street
Always onwards to the next pleasure
The sun streaks across the sky
Patter of rain halts the city
Glassy skyscrapers rise in hope
The kopi swills, as we tapau
Paint peels from slow aged timbers
Our beady eyes seek a future treasure
A pagoda glitters as the blue sky surrounds
Stars peer down, for 4 billion years
Namhsan tea leaves perfume our minds,
and we finally take our time.
by Nicola Anthony
A Mess
A mirror,
A slight of laughter,
At corner,
Diagonal lines
Converge.
Satisfied,
Unsatisfied;
A mixture of
bricks and
stones.
