This sculpture is from a series of sculptures about resistance - the words, phrases and powerful voices that have led people to become stronger and more resilient throughout history.

Circumvolution is a term that describes the act of rolling or turning around in a space such as a planetary circumvolution, or the turns and cycles we take in our journeys. Each part of this series features a text which during the artist’s research evolved through a lifetime in the phrases and sentiments which give us strength from childhood to adulthood.

Featured text:

The first half of this sculpture spirals playfully with the childhood saying “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me”

The second part quotes “They tried to bury me, but they did not realise, I am not just a person, I am a seed”, an adaptation of words by Greek poet Dinos Christianapolis which has been used as a slogan of resilience.
