Slowing things down

Ink and incense-burned drawing on calligraphy paper, stainless steel & mirrors.
15  x 4 metre installation

Nicola uses more than a thousand of pieces of calligraphy paper in this floating sculpture. A ten metre long ink drawing has been broken into fragments, burned with incense sticks in a meditative process, and stretched over stainless steel.

This fragmented and burned aesthetic aims to give a glimpse into the complexity of our experience of time, the layered nature of human existence, and the fragility of memories.

“This process for me is one of burning and destroying, creating holes and scars in the surface, but at the same time I am creating and revealing new layers and depictions."
