Parallel Lines: Drawing and Sculpture

  • The Lightbox Museum of Art, Sculpture & Inventions Chobham Road Woking, England, GU21 4AA United Kingdom (map)

In this exhibition The Light Box gallery will be showcasing works from twentieth century sculptors along side contemporary artists, exploring the use of line across the medium of sculpture and drawing.

I am happy to announce this group exhibition organised by the Royal Society of Sculptors. The works I will be showing respond to sculptures from the Ingram Collection, by the great masters Dame Barbara Hepworth, Sir Anthony Caro, Lynn Chadwick, Eduardo Paolozzi, John Behan, Michael Ayrton, and Kenneth Armitage, and more.

My pieces in this exhibition are part of my ‘Atlas’ series, and my Net drawings series. They explore alternative mark-making, employing my technique of burning the surface of calligraphy paper to create a layered image.

SPECIAL EVENT: Private view evening on 26th June, 6.30-8pm, rsvp to abigail.day@thelightbox.org.uk

'Saving our Souls', 2019, was made in response to John Behan's work Ghost Boat. The perilous past of the Irish incorporates a long history of war, famine and migration. "I have long been inspired by Behan's harrowing and powerful boat sculptures, depicting how Irish travels across the seas have ended in separation from families, loss of status and identity, or death.

Each of my artworks in this exhibition respond directly to a piece by a master sculptor. You can read more about each of the three works on my blog here.
