About Our time
A suspended ‘poem artwork’ by Nicola Anthony uses fragments of phrases in both Myanmar language, and English/Singlish language phrases, and poetry by writer San Lin Tun. The words are about the experience of time in Yangon and Singapore cities. Nicola has been collecting phrases from people in Singapore over the past 7 years, and these are collaged into a poem.:
Rushing down the street
Always onwards to the next pleasure
The sun streaks across the sky
Patter of rain halts the city
Glassy skyscrapers rise in hope
The kopi swills, as we tapau
Paint peels from slow aged timbers
Our beady eyes seek a future treasure
A pagoda glitters as the blue sky surrounds
Stars peer down, for 4 billion years
Namhsan tea leaves perfume our minds,
and we finally take our time.
