A Desire for Closeness

Nicola Anthony’s first solo show in Ireland will take place as part of the First Fortnight Festival 2020.

Though our need to connect is innate, many of us frequently feel alone. Over the coming months Nicola will work with individuals in Wexford who feel isolated, displaced or lonely. From their stories, Nicola will collaboratively create an immersive installation of interwoven text sculptures. some kinetic, others hovering in mid air. The exhibition will wrap you up in stories about the experience of loneliness, and help you to reconnect.

Nicola Anthony’s work provides insight into others alongside glimpses into the hidden parts of ourselves, and has been called “a journal of a thousand souls”. Based in Dublin, Nicola has travelled the world to work with disenfranchised communities and find the essence of what connects us all as human beings. Her life’s work is to collect human testimonies, empowering and transforming them into contemporary art. In the last 2 years, her work featuring the stories of Irish emigrants to the USA and Holocaust survivors who escaped Europe, have become public sculptures in Los Angeles, Colorado, and Singapore.

The secret life of colour

Beat the January blues by joining in this fun art workshop which explores colour, chromatography and inks - resulting in your very own beautiful collaged artwork.

Artist Nicola Anthony will be teaching you the properties of colours and inks, how to find calm and happiness through creativity, as well as how to express yourself through art. No art experience needed, all experience levels welcome

Around the world in 800 stories

Sculptor Nicola Anthony has travelled the world to make art about those who experience life differently, to delve into challenging life stories, and to find the human essence that bonds all of us despite our differences. In this talk Nicola will give insight into the exhibition at the Presentation Centre for which she worked with communities in Wexford county who experience profound loneliness or disconnection. She will share some wonderful stories that her reseach platform, the Human Archive Project has explored - from tales unexpected happiness and serendipity in Singapore, to the testimonies of holocaust survivors in the USA, to the feelings of displacement of those who have migrated to or from Ireland.
